On March 18, 2010, Takeda Pharmaceutical and the Global Fund announced an exciting new partnership in which Takeda will contribute JPY1 billion (approximately US$10 million) over ten years for the Global Fund’s programs.

On February 9, 2010, close to 40 participants gathered to discuss the proposed new joint funding and programming platform for heath system strengthening (HSS) to be coordinated by the Global Fund, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), and the World Bank.
The FGFJ held a seminar in Tokyo on June 23, 2009, to increase understanding of the activities and role of the Global Fund, and to share information with Japanese professionals about career possibilities within the Global Fund.

On July 22 to 25, 2008, six members of the FGFJ Diet Task Force visited Cambodia and Vietnam to speak with community leaders, aid workers and national policymakers working on AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
On May 26, 2008, M·A·C VIVA GLAM spokesperson Pamela Anderson presented a check for US$100,000 to the FGFJ on behalf of the M·A·C AIDS Fund to support the FGFJ’s efforts to engage political leaders.
On May 23-24, 2008, more than 150, NGO, business, and philanthropic leaders from around the world met in Tokyo for a major FGFJ conference to explore how the world can respond more effectively to the spread of communicable diseases in developing countries.
On May 23, 2008, Prime Minister Fukuda announced Japan’s new financial commitment of US$560 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund).
From April 21 to 25, 2008, the FGFJ and the Global Fund led a delegation of five Japanese journalists from major national newspapers to Cambodia and Vietnam.
On February 29, 2008, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Japan’s contribution of US$184 million to the Global Fund.
Dr. Akudo Anyanwu Ikemba visited Japan on November 5–10, 2007, to strengthen the ties between the FGFJ and Friends of the Global Fund Africa in the fight against communicable diseases.
